The primary monetization stream for Zynga is by selling virtual goods for use in a game, like chips in poker. An April 2009 article from TechCrunch reported that Zynga’s revenues for 2009 may “be well above” $100 million.

Zynga has reportedly raised $39 million from Avalon Ventures, Foundry Group, Individual Investors, Union Square Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
