Webkinz are a brand of plush stuffed animals manufactured by Ganz and sold by retailers. Each Webkinz comes with a unique code that can be used by the owner of the stuffed animal to enter Webkinz World, a virtual world targeted at children. Within Webkinz World, the user “adopts” a virtual pet matching his or her stuffed animal.
Once a pet is adopted, the user must care for his or her pet to ensure happiness, health, and hunger are fulfilled. This includes feeding the pet and entertaining it by playing with virtual friends.
Users can buy virtual items within Webkinz World to decorate the pet’s room using KinzCash. KinzCash can be earned by taking a quiz, playing arcade games, and through various other activities. Items are also for sale using real currency.
Ganz not only manufactures Webkinz and manages the Webkinz World, but also manufactures and sells giftware, fashion accessories, fragrant candles, and finishing touches for the home under the Bella Casa, Heritage Collection, and Time & Again brands.
