These leases allow the consumer to avoid what could end up being roughly $30,000 in cost to get a system up and running. In July 2008, just four months after its residential solar leasing program launched in April 2008, SolarCity reported that through the residential program, “We have already surpassed all of our 2007 sales.” SolarCity’s 2007 sales were reported to be $29 million.

SolarCity provides solar services for commercial and government buildings as well, including financing, design, installation, and ongoing support.

SolarCity has raised approximately $56 million in funding from Draper Fisher Jurverston, JP Morgan, Elon Musk, and First Solar.
