Company Overview

Redfin provides a combination of online real estate search and access to live agents who can assist with buying or selling a home. Redfin directly employs its agents, so that their agents do not need to spend time sourcing customers as all referrals come from Redfin.com. This method allows Redfin to reduce the commissions that buyers and sellers pay. When selling a home, Redfin charges a flat fee of either $5,000 or $7,000 regardless of home price. When buying a home with Redfin, the consumer receives half of the buyer’s agent commission – 1.5% when the buyer’s agent receives 3% of the sale price.

RedFin claims to display more homes than other real estate sites by combining MLS listings with homes in foreclosure, for-sale-by-owner homes, and records of past sales. Redfin has completed more than $1.5 billion in home sales, with a customer-satisfaction rating of 97%.

Redfin has reportedly received $20 million in funding from BEV Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Madrona Venture Group, and Vulcan Capital.
