LinkedIn is a social network for professionals that uniquely allows users to take advantage of their business network to make introductions, get jobs, and partake in message boards with the community. LinkedIn has more than 35 million registered users in 200 countries, and is available in English, Spanish, French, and German. Executives from every company in the Fortune 500 are represented on LinkedIn, encompassing 170 industries with 75 percent of its network being university educated; 50 percent of its members are in decision-making positions.
LinkedIn has raised $103 million in funding from Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, the European Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, Bain Capital Ventures, Goldman Sachs, The McGraw-Hill Companies, and SAP Ventures. LinkedIn was valued at more than $1 billion in its last round in October 2008, and, according to the founder and former CEO of LinkedIn, Reid Hoffman, “We’ve been profitable for the last two years, so when we want to IPO we can do that.”
